LSHE was well represented at the National Art Educators convention in Chicago. Two elementary students, Will Greip and Kira St Pierre, had photos of their alebrijes sculptures in the National Youth Art Month exhibit, coming in 3rd and honorable mention for MN. Mrs Malphurs attended many workshops and lectures by educators and famous artists, as well as serving on an elementary budget panel and presenting on her work with CRAE via MDE.

"Reading is Full of Surprises" was the theme this year at LSH Elementary as we celebrated I Love To Read Month! We had a surprise visit from Julie Gassman, a local author from St. Peter. Michael Callahan, a local magician, shared his magic tricks with K-5 earlier this month. Our grand celebration took place March 2 with a surprise visit from a local juggler, Adam St. Pierre! Students learned that reading can take us many places and we can learn many tricks when reading! Top readers from each class received some wonderful prizes. The Bar and Grill donated a free personal pan pizza. 300 Club donated a free game of bowling. Each top reader received a token to use in our new book vending machine that was donated from Le Sueur Rotary Club. A BIG SHOUT OUT to The Bar and Grill, 300 Club, and Le Sueur Rotary Club for all your support and generous donations. Congratulations to all our readers - Keep on reading and enjoying the surprises!

When we had to cancel the 4th grade fieldtrip to the Walker Arts Center to see the Dyani White Hawk exhibit, Mrs Malphurs decided to bring the Walker to LeSueur! Students rotated through stations to try beading, painting tiny brush strokes, looking at the exhibit catalog, watching a video about her 8'×12'beaded work, and looking at photos and videos of the show. The students were rock stars discussing the work with each other. The experience concluded with a virtual tour from the museum education department with the students on Friday. They impressed the museum staff and made LSHE proud!

Students in grades K-2 will be going to Stages Theater to see the play Giraffes Can't Dance.
In art we listened to the book, talked about how our bodies bend when we do our favorite dance move, then created collages of giraffes doing that move. Students will also be reading the book in their classrooms and doing academic activities that connect.
This field trip is funded by a grant from the MN State Arts Board made possible by the citizens of Minnesota through appropriations from the MN State Legislature.
