For art, 3rd graders went to Mankato to the Carnegie Arts Center to see the exhibit In Relation by Suyao Tian - a watercolor painting show of her work. Suyao grew up in China when families were only allowed to have 1 child and her work explores her time looking at nature in her work. Last year a majority of students asked to learn about some artists from China so this is a start. Before the trip we learned about Suyao and about watercolor techniques and at the arts center students got to paint and use watercolor pencils to create their own work. Additionally, we took a tour of the Mankato Sculpture Walk.

Both of these places are FREE to visit if your family would like to visit together as a follow up. The Sculpture Walk changes every year in April & May and new sculptures are put in and the Carnegie has a new exhibit each month of MN artists. This field trip was sponsored by a H.A.V.E. grant - thank you for your support! - Mrs Malphurs, LSHE art teacher

Mrs. Sohns’ class enjoyed making “shape” creations while wrapping up the 2D & 3D unit in math!
Mr Seipel and Mrs Malphurs teamed up today to create a cross-curricular lesson. The students had to combine learning from literacy and art to create a wax resist watercolor painting that used 3 of their 5 vocabulary words from their new literacy unit. Check out these amazing pictures of prey, predator, habitat, ecosystem and research. Students did a fantastic job of using their knowledge in both subjects to demonstrate what they know.
